Practice, improve and perfect your current crochet skills while making this original design poncho in this three part workshop. In the first class, you will review the pattern, stitches, determine the size and start making the garment. In the second class, students will recheck the gauge and sizing, confirm length and continue with the garment construction. Learn to print on paper and fabric using leaves, flowers and other botanical materials. Bundle and wrap your fabric and plant materials so that your prints come out clearly. Use mordants to set your colours. Learn how different fabrics and techniques affect the resulting colour. If time allows, hand-stitch dyed threads to create a textile diary. Explore a Japanese method of firing clay that dates back to the 1500’s and creates a metallic, smoky surface in a variety of colours. Create a clay object in the first session. In the second session, Raku glazed pieces will be removed from the kiln while at peak temperature and placed in a metal container containing straw or other combustible materials for a reduction fire. After rapidly cooling in water, the dramatic results will be revealed! Materials provided.

Contemporary is a dance style that explores storytelling through the body. This class is for the experienced dancer looking for a challenge. BEGINNER MOULD-MAKING with Giselle Peters, Saturday, July 29, 1:00 – 5:00 pm, $50 + GST.
Learn basic mould-making skills! Discussion will include simple press-moulds, bisque moulds, one piece moulds and complex multi-piece, plaster moulds. As a class, make a two-piece mould from start to finish during the course of the afternoon. Slip cast one mould (time permitting) to see how the process is finished to completion. Students can bring an object for mould trouble-shooting.

GENERATIONS ART SAFARI Lions, Tigers and Bears – Oh my! In this intergenerational class, families explore various media with an emphasis on 2D work. Projects may include drawing, painting, collage, basic printmaking and other media exploring animals and creatures of the natural world.
GENERATIONS CLAY HAND BUILDING Create functional ceramics with the whole family while discovering the range of possibilities using hand building techniques. Pinch, slab and coil construction methods will be covered as well as surface treatments. Participants are encouraged to be creative with clay to produce functional and decorative pieces. Projects may include: cups, bowls, vessels, platters and boxes with lids.
GENERATIONS CLAY WHEEL Parents and children learn basic preparation and throwing techniques together on the wheel. This is an inter-generational class that explores basic pottery. The whole family is encouraged to be creative while developing technical skills.

Lunches and breaks will be supervised, plase bring your own lunch and snacks as there are no on-site food vendors. No nut products please. There may be some outdoor activity, weather permitting.

A one-day introduction to the wheel! Perfect for the unsure, curious and over-scheduled. Learn how to centre a piece of clay on the wheel and throw a basic shape. Students choose their best piece to be bisque and glaze fired so that it will be functional. Materials provided.
