Spend quality time as a family and learn different art techniques in a variety of media. Create alongside each other on a variety of art projects. Families may choose to commit to 6 classes or pay for individual classes. For drop in classes, register at least 20 minutes before class begins. Availability is on a first come, first served basis. New to clay? Students will learn how to prepare the clay, center and pull pots for the wheel. This will be followed by learning how to trim your pots prior to firing and then a glazing workshop. An emphasis will be placed on learning the basic techniques necessary for building skills and developing creativity. The last class on July 11, runs from 6:00 – 8:00 pm for clay pick up.

MAY 26: Wine Glasses. Make a wine glass for special celebrations together.
JUNE 23: Coil Plate. Create a plate with a hidden message inside!
JULY 28: Wheel Throwing. Get dirty and re-enact a scene from Ghost.
AUGUST 25: Love Birds. Make pinch pot birds together. Other clay creatures are also welcome.

Here is an opportunity to draw and paint Lethbridge’s Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden which has offered us beauty and inspiration for 50 years! Small groups will be guided by three experienced plein-air artists. The garden is an excellent location for drawing or painting outdoors as it provides so many visually appealing vistas. Participants will meet at the garden each day, registration includes cost of admission to the Garden. A supply list will be provided upon registration.

Each Muddy Sunday will feature a different project from hand-building functional pots to sculpting to wheel introductions. This workshop is a fun afternoon in the studio and allows for exploration before committing to a multi-week course. Firing of the work will be provided with the cost of the class.
May 28 – Make a handmade mug. This will be glazed and fully functional.
June 25 – Wheel-throwing. Try out the wheel for an afternoon.
July 30 – Ceramic owl. You, too, can be one of those people that has a ceramic owl!
August 27 – Wine bottle holder. Please, no high-heeled shoes or cute puppies holding a bottle but anything else, we can make it happen - GP.

Try tapestry weaving! Explore and practice basic techniques on small frame looms, while learning to blend colours and build woven shapes with different finishing and embellishing techniques. Learn the basics of choosing yarns, warping a small frame loom and weaving shapes to design landscapes, faces and other images. The sample piece could be a wall hanging, small mat or sewn into a pouch or pocket. Perfect workshop for absolute beginners. Small looms and basic materials will be provided for the class. A supply list will be provided upon registration.

Use fibre-reactive and acid dyes to make beautifully coloured fabrics. Emphasis will be placed on understanding dye processes and fibre properties, achieving the desired colour effects and developing good studio habits. Participants will be encouraged to creatively incorporate reclaimed or repurposed textile. No previous experience is required. A supply list will be provided upon registration. This course is a formal orientation to the textile dye studio for studio access holders.

BEGINNER MOULD-MAKING with Giselle Peters, Saturday, July 29, 1:00 – 5:00 pm, $50 + GST.
Learn basic mould-making skills! Discussion will include simple press-moulds, bisque moulds, one piece moulds and complex multi-piece, plaster moulds. As a class, make a two-piece mould from start to finish during the course of the afternoon. Slip cast one mould (time permitting) to see how the process is finished to completion. Students can bring an object for mould trouble-shooting.

GENERATIONS ART SAFARI Lions, Tigers and Bears – Oh my! In this intergenerational class, families explore various media with an emphasis on 2D work. Projects may include drawing, painting, collage, basic printmaking and other media exploring animals and creatures of the natural world.
GENERATIONS CLAY HAND BUILDING Create functional ceramics with the whole family while discovering the range of possibilities using hand building techniques. Pinch, slab and coil construction methods will be covered as well as surface treatments. Participants are encouraged to be creative with clay to produce functional and decorative pieces. Projects may include: cups, bowls, vessels, platters and boxes with lids.
GENERATIONS CLAY WHEEL Parents and children learn basic preparation and throwing techniques together on the wheel. This is an inter-generational class that explores basic pottery. The whole family is encouraged to be creative while developing technical skills.

Lunches and breaks will be supervised, plase bring your own lunch and snacks as there are no on-site food vendors. No nut products please. There may be some outdoor activity, weather permitting.

A one-day introduction to the wheel! Perfect for the unsure, curious and over-scheduled. Learn how to centre a piece of clay on the wheel and throw a basic shape. Students choose their best piece to be bisque and glaze fired so that it will be functional. Materials provided.
